Men & Feelings

Last week, I was exchanging in a few online messages with my friend from back home. We were talking about a lot of things, until he told me that after five long years of a relationship with his best friend, they finally had a guy-to-guy emotional talk. Prior to this talk, they never touched base to how they felt at a given time. He told me that it really allowed them to connect on a deeper level, giving him a whole new perpective on their friendship.
My issue was, why is this JUST happening now after five years? He replied, "because we're guys." Over the years, men have lacked this emotion in public. Women are emotional, men are not; that's just how it is. Men don't talk about feelings, because God forbid if they did, they'd be gay, or have many problems. This is a terrible way of thinking. These gender roles go so far as to repress a natural feeling such as simply being sad. Women like to plaster their emotions all over their environments (because they can) and men keep their callous, macho demeanor in order to comply with the gender ideologies around them.
