I stumbled across this Fox News article about a
Florida sex shop that is being threatened to be shut down:

The shop opened in the late 90s and was told they had to move almost
immediately after opening. The storeowners were given five years to find
another location, but the government forgot about the ordeal. In order to
appease its opponents, the store changed its name from "Adult
Superstore" to "Dare Wear Fashions." The town then was reminded
of the shop and the movement to get it shut down was continued.
Despite the ordinances this county might have,
it seems ridiculous that they can't handle an adult sex store. I grew up in the
Midwest where sex is not an openly discussed and is thought of as scandalous
and a sin. My sexual education courses were extremely limited, and boys and
girls were split up. The very first class I remember they tried to integrate
male sex ed into our course, but eventually enough parents complained that they
decided to stick to just female sex ed. So I have experienced a town that fears
sex, yet I do not understand it.
This shop is not advertising the products
that are sold inside. Its new name would not strike someone driving past it as
a sex store. Children will not be exposed to the store, because nothing is
publicized. People use the shop in order to express their sexuality and
explore, but instead of the town thinking this is a natural, human expression
they think it is satanic. This goes along perfectly with Rubin’s “Thinking Sex”
essay, as this is an example of sex negativity. This town has a warped
perception of sex and views it as a bad thing rather than a good thing. I don’t
understand how people can be so afraid of it when it is such a core part of the
human life.
