This week’s article I read is titled “Men are more
intelligent than women, claims new study” by Ben Clerkin and Fiona Macrae. Here
is the link: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-405056/Men-intelligent-women-claims-new-study.html
The article mostly talks about how a recent (recent
at that time, 2006) study demonstrated that men have higher IQs than women. Scientists
have been doing experiments on men and women to see who had better thinking abilities.
Soon, the result demonstrated that men had higher IQ averages than women’s
averages.
Although I have been aware of the small fights
between men and women, I have not realized that those small fights would
include somewhat very childlike topics. It was also funny that I got a tingle
of anger while reading this article and the article really bothered me. The
article seemed personally unnecessary because these types of articles are the
ones that create this gender difference. The article is made very public in
which everyone can have access. These articles have higher chances of
influencing people’s thinking and views on this matter. For example, a man who
did not have any issue regarding gender might read this article and feel a
sense of superiority over women (this example might be extreme). I think that
articles with intentions of being publicized should not write such articles
like this. Hence, the media has crucially influenced many of the gender norms
and the media should think twice before posting a article that might trigger
negative response from any gender.
